A busy day … by Nicholas, aged 7 weeks and 5 days

Today was a busy and exciting day of new experiences for me.

After a quick check up at the health centre (I now weigh 4.12kg) I took my first bus trip. Mummy and I took the Number 15 from All Saints to Aldwych, which took about 50 minutes and I slept the whole way. We met Nana and her friend Sandra for lunch at Cote in Covent Garden. I was a very good boy and let Mummy eat her main course before I wanted my milk.

I didn’t like the return bus journey much and cried lots so Mummy and I got off. I calmed down very quickly and as we were near Daddy’s office I made my first visit there to see him. I met his colleagues who were all lovely to me and cuddled me lots. I hope to visit them again one day.

Expressions

Nicholas now has a large range of expressions.  He has started to communicate not only by crying, but also by cooing and grunting.  He smiles when he sees his Mum and laughs when he plays with his Dad.

Teddy bear

Nicholas still doesn’t sleep very well if he’s not being held, but last night he slept for a whole five hours in his Moses basket (across two separate periods), meaning much better rest for his Mum and Dad!  One of the things that seems to calm Nicholas down when in his cot is having his teddy bear to cuddle – or at least to suck on.

Nicholas meets Caitlin and Annushka

Nicholas met two other babies today, who were born just before him.  Their parents went to the same NCT group as us, and we met them in a restaurant in Canary Wharf for a drink.

Nicholas was vey well behaved, and we were very proud of him because last night he slept for five hours non-stop in his Moses basket!

Nicholas meets Great Nanny Dolly

While we were at Tim’s parents, Tim’s Nan visited so that she could meet Nicholas.  Nicholas had a nice cuddle with his Great Nan, thoughhe was a little overawed by the number of visitors he had had by that point!

Exploring new houses

We went looking at new houses today, focussing our searches on Badgers Mount and the surrounding area.  While we have enjoyed living in East London, particularly appreciating the commuting distance (and Justine will be very sad when she’s no longer able to walk to work), now that we have Nicholas we are looking for somewhere a little bigger and a little more rural.

We looked at four houses, two of which were very interesting.  Nicholas didn’t find them very interesting, however, and he slept in his car seat and in Tim’s sling the entire time.

Back to work

Tim has gone back to work today after just over six weeks off.  It’s quite a culture shock, not least because he is having to do so on just over five hours of sleep!  Nicholas unfortunately doesn’t understand the need for people to rest well before work, and still insists on being held all night …

Visiting Pip, Tom and Finley

Since we were in the Lake District, we visited Pip and Tom on Sunday at their home in Kendal. Finley was pleased to see his cousin again, but Nicholas was more interested in feeding!

We had dinner with Pip and Tom – a Chinese – before going back to the hotel to pack in anticipation of another long car journey home.

Anne and Andrew’s wedding

We have just returned from a long and exhausting weekend.  This was our first major trip away with Nicholas, and we can see now that we didn’t fully understand the changes that having our little one with us would bring …
